You want to ID the rear or ID what gears are in the rear? If its a factory 5.0, its pretty unlikely that it has anything different than an 8.8 in it because theres really no reason to take them out. Unless you have a 800rwhp FB that has a 9" in it, which I doubt.

i know i have an 8.8, i just need to know what year it came out of. that way i can buy the right calipers for the for it. or are they all the same? the reason for this is at my local salvage i have found a few 8.8's just laying around with calipers on them, i just dont want to do all the work of getting the calipers and then they dont fit...

If they are out of fox bodies than as far as I know you shouldn't have any problems using them.

the common swap was the 8.8 from a late 80's Thunderbird. compare the calipers on your car to a T-Bird caliper. there should be a part number cast into the caliper that the parts stores can cross-reference for you.

5-lug...that kills the T-Bird idea...

Lincoln Mk. VII or Town Car, maybe?
