1988 mustang GT 5.0 HO problems
First off i like to say hi to everyone **waves**
I`m new here and just bought a 88 mustang gt 5.0 HO 5 speed hatchback.
This car has had some work done to it here is what i know about it
1)Engine has been rebuilt about 12k ago
2)been bored .30
3)new racing clutch (t-5) transmission
4)bbk long headers/bbk off road h pipe/flowmaster tail
5)high performace injectors (not sure what kind)
6)pulleys times 3
7)hurst shorty shifter
8)cam (not sure of size)
9)bbk cold air ram
10)new 3.73 racing rear end
11) complete tuneup//plugs//wires//cap//button//coil
12)new water pump//oil pump//fuel pump//oil pressure switch//
13)new throttle position sensor and timing set
my 1st problem is that 2nd gear feels like it don`t go all the way in(like it just alittle short from dropping in but does go in.. any help on this problem????
my 2nd problem is that the idle is slow to come down.say if i would reve the engine up it comes down to about 1 1/2 stays there for about 6 seconds then drops down to normal...any help on this problem????
I only paid 3000.00 for car yesterday so i fiqure little problems like this are well worth the fix.
Thanks for any help
Mike

for the "not dropping into gear" issue, check the shifter. if it is a Hurst, the stops may not be adjusted properly.
for the idle issue, check the TP sensor voltage. if it's over 1V with the throttle closed, that could cause the idle problem. it could also be the IAC valve sticking some. try cleaning the valve with CRC Brakekleen or carb cleaner.

ok thanks buck i got the shifting fixed,it was the adjustment on the hurst.
still working on idle problem cleaned valve,tp sensor voltage good.
no codes being shown, not sure about dashpot function idle never heard of that

good deal on the shifter. if the IAC and TP sensor are working right, you may need an idle-air bypass plate. if the cam has a real radical idle, that may help. it's Ford part number F2PE-9F939-AA. if the local dealer can't get one, try Holcomb Motorsports (1-800-475-RACE). they usually have 'em.
