Default Should I port my heads? which cam?

Hey guys, before I do my head swap, I was thinking of whether I should get some work done to my heads. I just bought the edelbrock performers. I also bought bbk 1 5/8th headers and 1.6 rr cuz someone said 1.7 wouldn't clear. Quik recommended the TFS1 cam with the 1.7's for my set up. What do you guys think? Will it all clear? Or should I use the 1.6's. I wasn't gonna do the cam, but I figured that I might as well-Quik sold me on doing it. Do you guys have any other cam suggestions? I am really concerned about clearance issues and not having to notch pistons and so forth. I am also wondering about the idle. Is it gonna be crazy? But anyways, I was really wondering if I should get some work done on the heads. I mean, is it worth it? How many horses is it worth and about how much should I pay to get it done?I just don't wanna be pissed afterwords because I didn't port them. Here's a list of my current set up so you guys can see what I'm working with. MSD 6al, MSD distributor, 76mmc&l maf with tru flow pipe, 24# injectors, edelbrock 70mm tb, Edelbrock RPMII manifold, 190 lph fuel pump, bbk fuel pressure regulator, gt40p heads, e303 cam, 1.7rr, 4.10 gears, FRPP aluminum driveshaft, centerforce clutch, fluidyne aluminum radiator, optima yellow top, mac headers, bassani x pipe with cats, mac cat back, eibach prokit, kyb shocks/struts, steeda tri ax shifter. Any input is great. I just want to do it right the first time, but also have a car that will blow a/c and cruise when I want to. It's not a daily driver, but I like to have fun.

for the edelys. i would just gasket match them some, then gasket match the intake. this should be more then enough for your current setup. make sure your valve springs can handle the lift. im pretty sure you wont have any issues with PTV with the TFS 1 cam and 1.7s and for idle it should be fairly stable but it will have a nice healthy lope to it. whats nice is you have more lift on the exhaust with the tfs 1 cam and with smaller valves you shouldnt have any PTV issues. intake will also be safe since its less lift. this cam also seems to respond well to the sauce if you ever went to use this cam. with all the mods you have youll have a very stout combo. with the 410s it will help make up some of the lack of low end and will most deff help pull hard to the higher rpms that the combo can pull to. with this setup i would probably shift around 6k.

i would deff get a tune to get the most out of this setup

thanks quik. Do you know by chance if summit will let me exchange the 1.6's for 1.7's if I just got them about a month ago and didn't use them yet?

I bet you could exchange them for store credit, doesn't the 5.0 come stock with 1.6's?

yeah, but I changed them for 1.7's. Then people were telling me that the 1.7's wouldn't clear with the e-cam and the edelbrock heads, so I got 1.6's

Actually, should I just get different valve covers? would that solve all my clearance worries?

valve covers are what most ppl are talking about. some think that ecam or TFS1 wont clear with 1.7s but it does. now if you start getting mixed up with shaved heads then you culd see issues

and stock are 1.6 but they are stamped not roller

youll get store credit which should still work. hoped you saved that receipt

I am not sure about the 95's but in my 91 when I put 1.7rr's and a b-303 cam, the only thing I had to do was take out the passenger oil baffle right under the oil fill tube.
