Default Cut off the Top cats???

A buddy of mine told me to cut off the top cats and run just the ones at the bottom and I'd still be smog legal (ca) and have a way better sound. Any one know about this???

dont waste your time working with the stock pipe. ford uses 2 different types of cats to help with their emissions. it shouldnt pass smog. best bet is to pay what is it 150 and then keep the stocker and swap them out

I've heard that If I run a non catted h or x pipe that the car will run like sh*t and throw my check engine light on is this true? does it effect drivability at all?

most of everybody on here runs no cats. my car runs no cats and doesnt throw a code. if youre car is OBDII then it would but since ours are OBDI it wont throw a code

You'd still be better off running an O/R H-pipe as opposed to gutting the cats. Especially when there's 4 of them since the large empty cat chambers will slow your exhaust velocity down, but if you want to look legal and don't want to spend the money then I say great job.
