Default She Totally Died today!!

My 95 GT totally died today. Initially it was looking like the Cats were plugged. I took it to the Muffler shop and they did a backpressure test... They said that there were NO restrictions.... I managed to hunt down a timing light and set the timing to 12deg BTDC like everyone was recommending. That did seem to help as in my previous post it was just lacking power. I hopped on the freeway today when it started to "Sputter" and before you know it she was DEAD!! I got out of the car and she smelled hot so I looked underneath and the Rear Cat on the passenger side was Smooooookin... From there I figured that the muffler shop misdiagnosed.... I surgically removed the Cats to rule out the problem for myself.... Well she Still sputters and hardly stays running. I am not sure where else to go with this?? Could the Distrubutor possibly be the problem. Many years ago I had a pontiac that did this very thing and that is what I ended up replacing to finally fix that problem. The only KOEO codes I received were O2 bank lean and secondary fuel delivery or whatever error. I did check fuel pressure and I get an inital 36psi and while running it is @ 32psi. When I revved the engine it jumped to 40psi so I don't think the Fuel pump is the problem. Any Ideas?? BTW there are 146k miles on this car but all in all even with the power loss it ran well.

the distributor and TFI module are common points of failure on our cars... follow the proper trouble shooting steps found here

if the exhaust got hot its running lean.

i would check for codes and put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail.

Default Its looking like it is the distributor

After some further testing it is really looking like it's the distributor.... Now the only issue is finding one at a reasonable price! Unfortunately I am still a "Noob" here so I can not post in the "Wanted To Buy" section. If any of you have one or know of one I can get my hands on I'd greatly appreciate a reply. I know I can buy new or get one off ebay but I want to keep the price reasonable! Bone Yard is a loser here too.... They don't want to part with one.

Default We Got A Winner!!

I got a remanufactured Distributor today and sure enough.... When I pulled the old one out of the block and spun it by hand... It was rubbing on the pick up!! I am guessing it was arcing when ever it hit. Anyway I put the new one in and timed it and wouldn't you know it... She runs great!!! So don't rule out the distributor if any of your cars start to spit and sputter and loose power! Thanks everyone. Now on to the next topic!! My Convertible top cylinder plastic broke.. The cylinder works great but of course it's useless since the pivot point is not there. Again I'd love to post a "Wanted" in the classifieds but am still short of the number of posts! A new one is $140 on ebay but mine works great if of course it was all there. Any repair ideas??? Anyone have one???? Again its a 95.

Thanks

Thanks
umm arcing no..that's not what was going on, a hall effect sensor when hit by the reluctor wheel does not arc, the signal is interupted/open and or not cleanly transmitted and or recieved
