Question about fox bodied mustangs/GT (87-93)

Hello,

I am new to this forum and the world of mustangs.I am interested in purchasing my first car and I have chosen the 1987-1993 Mustang 5.0 . I am particularly looking for a mustang within those years with the ground effects on the bottom (i.e. lowered sportier bumpers) and the taillights with the small slits in them. Is this the GT option ? I noticed while looking for mustangs on the net that they go by the name of the Mustang GT. Also what performance options were in the Mustang GT over the base Mustang

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Yes that is the GT option the only difference is the GT has a better suspension. Also you look into the years 89-92 those were the best years for mods bc it had forged pistons and mass air

gt and lx have the same suspension. also forged pistions were from 87 to 92. ppl just dont like the 87 and 88s cause they arent MAF cars. nothing an hour of your time couldnt fix.

there isnt no motor difference, cars are identical except for facial stuff/tailpipes

The GT doesnt have different suspension its just a ground effect kit on it,thats it.The LXs are faster due to the less weight on them

It all really depends what body style you prefer, the hatchback on the notchback or even a convertible. There is no difference between performance or handling between the three except that the convertible is a little bit heavier out of the three.

the gt came with a rear sway bar and had power traction

Thanks for all of your help. I will definately go for the the GT hatchback because in my opinion it looks much nicer than the LX.

haahaha what the hell is power traction??? do you mean traction loK? if so that is fords brand of limited slip diff. also the LX had the GT handling package. so whatever that is on a GT is on aLX. even all the wires for fog lights and power seats

there is handling difference between them the LX has a slighty lower coeffiection due to the wing and not have the front air damn

its not called power traction. its called traction lok. its ford's name for it. seems like you a made up wording there

first off its QUIK not quick.
second LX had traction LOK unless its a 4 banger conversion or the clutches inside are worn out. they didnt put a single wheel in the 5.0 8.8 rears. they came with traction lok from the factory now if youre doint burnouts alot it will wear the clutches fast and cause you to have single peel.

So to pick this up, it's a difference of rear sway bar, different bumper, side cladding and a spoiler?
How tough is it to get the GT appearance for an LX? Cost, source? I am shopping for a 5.0 so I wanted to know a bit more.

Thanks,
Mark

No, both have the same sway bar. Everything is the same but the body kit.
