Default clearancing pan and oil pickup

Is it necessary to clearance the pickup and pan if both pieces are stock?

I bought a sealed power pickup and it matches the stock piece, besides a crinkle in the stocker. Everything is bolted together and has the tab for the nut on the main cap.

Im also using a Ford Racing pump.

You need to check the pick up to pan clearance. Use clay or just take measurments

If it has the same shape as the stock then why would it cause clearance issues? Use common sense it doesn't just bend out of shape when you bolt up the pan. If you can't get the pan to sit flush without bolting it then you have issues.

Thats what I was thinking I just wanted to be sure. It looked like it would be pretty hard to bend it. But yeah everything followed the stock shape so it should be good.

Pan bolted up nicely also.

Many people have followed that advice and ruined engines. Simple engine basics 101. Takes less than 5 minutes. Always check the pick up to pan clearance. Its one of the most important clearance in the engine.

Any one that has assembled or built more than a few engines, and actually checked the clearance will know that the clearances are all over the place.

And just because it doesn't hit the pan doesn't mean there is not a problem. Having the pick to high will cause major issues also. Specially if the person is winding the rpm's up.

Heard a high volume pump in stock pan pulls oil out quicker than can drain back down. Ask that question before do something to yourself.

Yep I bought a stock volume and pressure pump since I didnt want to spend a bunch of money on a new pan. I got the car running today and the oil pressure is great.

Had to mess with the timing though. Had the dizzy off a tooth and way retarded. Runs good now. Just wished I could drive it but mother nature had other plans today.
