Definately do not supports doing this with anything EXCEPT a dirt driven derby car.

Either rebuild the TrakLok with new clutches of upgrade to something aftermarket.

that's the redneck and stupid way out of it. i know a few people that've done it to their v6 stangs and camaros. it lasts a few burnouts and donuts then breaks. just put new clutch packs in it and get your 2 tire burnouts back.

Clutch pack install is not difficult. Parts, oil, and additive about $100

A spool would have the same effect as welding the spider gears..... Only difference I can think that you would be referring to would be less rotational mass, but I can't see if making a noticeable difference

I have seen some high hp off road rigs with big meats that had welded diffs without breaking, so it can be done correctly.

I would also not suggest this approach. You can get "lockers" that simply replace the spider gears and are not terribly expensive. More the the cost of welding consumables, but cheap enough. Plus then you actually get some differential action when you are not on the throttle

Go with the Eatcn differential. You'll hook up really good.
