Odd white terrible smelling smoke
#6
I did put a new shifter in, and did a transmission flush and added new fluid. I just read something about detergents in the new fluid loosening up crud in the transmission, causing problems in the next few thousand miles. Could that be my problem?

you need to locate the source of the smoke before anyone here can give you any ideas.
every single piece of equipment under your hood can smoke given any multitude of situation. you're asking us to guess which of the hundreds of things that can smoke.

Maybe during the tranny service some fluid and/or detergents got onto your exhaust pipes and now it is getting progessively burned off as you drive.
This may be the case because it keeps on smoking even after the car is shut off AND the section of exhaust we are talking about is far enough behind the engine to allow for a bit of time for all of the contaminants to burn off completely.
