Default auto tranny install ? for a 5.0

Ok picked up a project Mustang a few weeks ago and the trannys junk. I'm going to put a WC T-5 in. I came across a FMX that works good for only $50 bucks so I thought what the hell till I get the T-5 I can at least drive it a little.

So as taking the old tranny out I left the torque converter on the motor and pulled the tranny. Yea realized that was a bad idea when tranny fluid pour everywhere. Well I left the t/c there and started to put the fmx in. Now I don't know anything about automatics drove/worked on 5 speeds all my life. So I pulled the bellhousing off and installed it on the motor it works way easier with 5 speeds. Then jacked up the tranny and slid it in the t/c got it in except can't get the last 2 inches. What the hell? It works the same as sliding it into a clutch right? Or will I have to pull it all down again and take off the t/c and put it on the tranny first?

Thanks

Put bellhousing back on transmission. Take torque converter and slide into trans, now turn torque converter while pushing in and notice it will drop in fuarther, turn t.q. and drop back in again. Now it is ready. Not at all like the t-5. Bubba

Thanks! Now that's another reason to hate automatics.

I don't see the reason that people unbolt the bells from the trannys to begin with. With the correct tools it's quicker to leave it on. I can have a T5 out of a mustang, with bell on, in 30 minutes or less.

I'd put a new seal on trans or you'll have a leaking mess all over.
Costs about $5........

tinman has a excellent piece of advice. Replace the front seal or wish you had. Bubba

The tranny won't be in long so I don't care. Plus I'm thinking the t/c is shot anyways so the tranny will probly be comming right back out.

thanks for the replys
