Default Holes in air box?

I've seen a couple posters here recommending drilling holes in their air box...I assume they mean in the section in front of the filter, right? Like in the silencer?

This doesn't disrupt the air flow at all? I would think a smoother surface would allow air to flow freer.

i haven't seen anyone say that but this is what most people do with the stock airbox:

remove the airsilencer, drop in a K&N filter and cut the fender to match the size of the airbox.

Your better off to get a cold air intake with a K&N filter on the end...You could probably get a couple horsepower from it also

Holes may allow warmer air to get in, thus dropping power. Get a CAI instead.

the stock intake is a cai. the aluminum used in aftermarket 200 dollar air intakes just heats up.

for 40 bucks (K&N filter) he could have the same thing.

you can make a ram air effect using the stock air box and a k/n filter....

So would a guy benefit or not from enlarging the hole in the airbox?

enlarging the hole in the end of the stock airbox will lose you low end torque, but net higher HP, so you decide. the factory airbox on the foxes are cold air style so a chrome CAI wont get you anything but good looks, and with some MAFs an idle problem, i say stick with the stock style and add a k&n drop in.

i had drilled and spoke of the drilling of holes. i drill several 1/4 holes in the bottom of the air box. this trick works on lots of stock vehicles air boxes. and for those that say get a CAI. go do some more research. stock box is one but just has a bottleneck that hurts the air flow. enlarge the opening and drop a K&N panel filter in there and youll be fine

for you guys that just spent that money on a part thats chrome, hows it feel to waste a few bucks when you could of put it towards other things. now if you got one for say 40 bucks it be worth it and even then you may have issues with the MAF

for a better performance gain. replace the tube that goes from teh MAF to the TB. this is where most aftermarket CAIs make the power, not with the fender air but with a smooth air flow into the TB

modifiy stock box, K&N fitler and C&L maf with tube is better then the aftermarket CAI kits
