Bent Valves, Bent Pushrods I h
Alright I just found out more bad news on my motor! First the pushrods were bent most likly due to over revving from my machanic, He rips the heads appart and sees that the valves are completly bent. Can anyone help me with deciding on what the simptom accually was. The few times ive heard my motor there it sounded like he took it at least up to 6 grand on a brand new never been fired motor. Who knows what he does when i'm not there. Any ideas of what could cause my motor to be messing up ? It was a Gt40 Head long block from ford racing.

Sorry to hear that, T5. He may have used the wrong pushrods to begin with. Bent valves usually mean they're hitting the pistons, so I would take a close look at them also. If it is the longblock, he can't do too much damage unless he totally screwed up the valve adjustment, hard to do for someone with experience. If the motor is in the car, he may have taken it for a "test drive" and missed a shift. I just can't imagine someone with experience doing any of the above. He is going to pay for the damage, right?

He better pay for it.. The motor was a fully assembled long block, he took off the timing chain, water pump, etc and I put on brand new better stuff for my application which I purchased myself. The only things that were messed with was he threw on some new 1.7 roller rockers, and he tried to advance the cam 4 degrees but ended up with no compression so he put it back on top dead canter. Everything under the hood is brand new. I wanted a good clean replacement and thought I would have had one. But this is turning out to be a nightmare. The valves and everything should have been fine from the factory. There is another person running around here with the same motor and he has had no problems ive heard . <edited><editID>T5superduty</editID><editDate>37950.9508796296</editDate></edited>

Did he check clearances before firing the stupid thing up? I mean.. bent valves and pushrods only happens one way, piston to valve contact. Did he completely screw up the timing when he had the timing chain off? It's possible that the cam wasn't where he thought it should have been? Or is there just not enough clearance on your motor to run the 1.7 rockers?

I think horatio meant that the 1.7's were causing the valves to hit the pistons. If the motor was originally set up to run the 1.6 rockers and the clearance was tight, you don't want to install 1.7's without checking the p/v clearance.

Indeed that's what I was talking about. With a high-lift cam you need to be weary of piston to valve clearance, especially so if you're increasing the rocker ratio. If you had .0200 clearance before swapping, you could be screwed. .5000" @ 1.6:1 = .53125" @ 1.7:1
