Default How do you know when you clutch is going out?

My clutch feels really easy and I think it might be going out. So what are some signs that this might be the case? Thanks I would really appreciate any ideas.

or do just the opposite
put it in 5th at 30mph and see if it slips when you accelerate

can you smell anything different? Normally when a clutch starts to go out it will begin to slip causing more heat friction therefore creating a burning smell.

I haven't really smelled much, but I also have not been able to drive it much for awhile because of registration problems I have to iron out. But I am planning on driving it down to cali this summer for school and want to make sure the clutch does not go out. Is there a step by step process I could find so I can know exactly what to do in order to replace it if it is bad?
