Default Alternator Wiring Problems

I have been having charging problems on my 93, or lack of charging. When the car is not running I show 12.4 volts across the battery. When the car is running I show 12.0 volts across the battery. Of course the battery keeps dying. I had the battery checked and it is good, so I am under the assumption that it is the alternator. I was digging around in there and found a black/orange wire that has been cut and soldered to another wire going to the starter solenoid. Currently the soldered jumper wire has come apart. There is also another what appears to be black wire tied into to it. I believe the black/orange and black wire comes from the alternator, goes above the radiator, and then under the battery, then up to the starter soleniod. Does anyone know what the purpose of these wires are? Also, why are there two black/orange wires coming from the alternator and only one going up the starter soleniod?

The 2 black/orange wires coming out of the alternator are the positive charge feeds to the battery. They splice into 1 black/orange wire at splice #140, which is located near the junction block where the body harness splits out to the headlight harness.

Between this point and the starter solenoid(hot side), there is a 14 gauge fusible link, labeled as Link F in this picture.

Default Fuse Links

Those schematics are great, a lot better than the Hayes Manual I have. Is there an actual fuse in the fuse link? It looks like the wire was cut and a new wire put in where the fusable link would have been. Could you describe what a fusable link looks like?

Thanks Again !!!!

if the piece soldered in is the same color as the rest of the wire, that is the fused link. the wire is larger at the link, that's what goes if there is a spike in currant.

Ok I looked and found some other fuse links in the engine bay, so I now know what they look like. It looks like the previous owner may have blown the fuse link or broke the wire. I think he then grabbed some wire and glued and soldered a jumber in its place. The jumper wire has become extreamly brittle and has broken apart. I will see if I can get in there to solder a new fuse link or if it would make more sense to just get a new 3G alternator with the single wire installation kit. $3 fix vs. $300?

Well it shouldn't cost you $300 to go a 3G swap. If you plan on running an electric fan and you can afford it you might as well go with the swap

I have AllData at my house. I'm an ASE master tech without a drivers license, so its hard for me to get hired anywhere, so I'm working from home.
