94 Mustang hood release issue

94 Mustang hood release issue
I recently bought a '94 mustang GT and am having an issue with the hood release.
After I removed my cold air intake filter to clean it and close the hood I now cannot get the hood release to function. Having previously had an issue on a cavalier where the hood release cable just snapped when I continued yanking on it I'm reluctant to try and force it.
Here's specifically what's going on -
Pulled the hood release handle on the drivers side, handle came back without any problem and the resistance felt about right. However there was no "popping" sound to indicate that the cable had functioned. Tried to open the hood and sure enough nothing happened. I've tried multiple times to pull the lever and I'm not sure what's going on but it simply isn't functioning. So basically i've got a $5500 dollar prop sitting in my parking lot since there's no way i'm going to risk driving it with no air filter on the intake.
Advice and suggestions would be appreciated, I'm pretty certain that on an older model like this there should be a way to release the catch manually, however I'm not sure what I'd be looking for on this particular model or where the best access point would be.
Lastly the previous owner had put a '94 cobra body kit and hood on the car, not sure if this will affect anything but I'm all about details so hopefully it does.
Thanks in advance.

i have no idea, but u could try having someone pull the release from in the car and bounce the hood down before you pull it up incase its stuck on something? also, do u still the pony emblem in the grill? i dont and to open my hood (after it pops) i have to reach my hand in and slide the hook to the side to release it. maybe you could try messing with that to get er loose? good luck!
