Default Clutch Pack Assembly 8.8

Hi all,

My hands are covered in smelly friction adative so ill make this quick.

First of all. My ford replacement clutch kit came with 8 clutches.

Yes, all 8 are actual clutches, 2 are not spacers.

Ok, when i disassembled my carrier a week ago it went like this:

Gear teeth, clutch, shim, shim, clutch, shim, shim, clutch.

From what i was going by, this diff has never been apart.

Is that order above correct? Why do i have 8 clutches? I only use 6?

A diagram of a ford 8.8" exploded carrier would be superb!

Thanks guys!

The clutch, shim, shim, clutch is the factory order. Some people will put clutch, shim, clutch, shim to make the rearend tighter. Ive mostly used the factory set up and had good luck with it.

I've used the factory style set up with no issues, but I'll often use a thicker shim to shim the pack tighter or as tight as I can so as to still be able to roll the spider gears back in

I tried clutch shim clutch shim clutch shim clutch and the ears didnt fit in the carrier. It was too tight.

Im not to worried about it. I did it the way i mentioned before.

Good times. Just dealing with pinion shim now.
