Default water prob

my friend just bought a 95 red stang but his collant pushes up out the radiator if you leave the cap off while running. could this problem come from the radiator needing to be flushed. He changed his thermastat but still doing it. We also changed his waterpump and made sure the belt was running in the right direction. I thought he could have a blown head but the car isn't mixing oil and water and it doesn't skip after sitting over night. What could this be?

sounds normal to me, thats what the cap is designed for, they have a pressure rating, the higher the cap pressure the higher the boiling point of the cooling system.

Does it shoot out the minute you start the car, or does it slowly push it out while warming up. If the latter, it's normal.

it slowly pushes out after the car is started. It takes a while then it slowly rises . I think it may be getting pressure in the lines some how. After I replaced the water pump the timing chain cover began to leak between the cover and the block. The car now has blown the heater core. He told me when he drives the car it stays cool for a while then it will rise quickly till the needle is between the m and a on normal. Then it will later slowly go back down some. Is it possible that the cooling system needs to be burped and that it is causing pressure to hold the thermastat closed . As for the heater core maybe it was just old and finally went. And maybe the timing chain gasket got lose somehow in the waterpump replacement. I appreciate the help and input. I'm still trying to fix this prob so please keep helping.

I how he used a MR GASKET 180 STAT as there is NO bupping needed with this stat...I'm leaning to a partial blown heads gasket

isnt that what the resevoir/pukecan is for. Isnt that normal after the engine is warmed? Why would you guys say that it would be a blown head gasket. if the gasket is partial blown or all the way is it possible to push air in the water jackets (or whatever they are called)?

yea he put in a 180 . But in a hour or two I"m going to go to his house and put in a 160 . I'm going to drill a hole at the top of the T-stat so that it will release air bubbles. I have another friend at work that says his lincoln was doing the same and he removed the stat and its been doing good since then. He said he did this four years back and still no probs. I think it may be the heads but with this solution he could drive it till he can afford gaskets and to pay for the work. I heard that this might stop closed loop but maybe with a bad gasket it'll be fine.

he has a 16lb radiator lid maybe a 13lb will help reduce the pressure?

why could it be a blown head! Because a blown head can allow compression into the water jackets witch builds and cause other gaskets to blow as well as heatercores waterpumps and radiaters. I've heard an inline crack can do the same.
