Default High NOx smog test

Just posted my grief in the general discussion section, but pretty much my fox failed nox emissions test, registered way high.

So in an attempt to help lower it i cleaned out and re-charged my bbk CAI filter and cleaned out my EGR which might i add was completely filthy and literally black on the inside, i'm hoping thats what caused it.

My cats are pretty much new, only about 2 years old so i'm pretty sure those bad boys are up to par.

Got any other suggestions to help sway the nox readout before i take it back in again?
(besides racing it down a freeway for a bit to get the cats nice and hot haha)

High NoX is a result of high combustion chamber temperatures, can be caused by lean condition. I would check the O2 sensors first, check timing as well. Also make sure that the car is hot and goes on the rollers right as you pull in. On my BMW this made huge difference, after 15 minutes of sitting it had 450/470 NoX (at 25MPH); but when it went right on the roller without sitting 110/470.

alright so i took it in this morning...,failed again.
And i drove the crap out if on the freeways before taking it in to make it nice and hot,
so next thing on my list is to swap out the 02 sensors, is it just the one located on the exhaust manifold? or where is the exact location?

replace your o2's and reset the computer to allow it to relearn the fuel trims..maybe that'll help you

Or, you can move where i am. No **** smog testing for me! =)

There are two O2 sensors, one on each side of the H pipe right after it connects to headers.

Drop the timing to 8. you'll pass without having to do anything else, assuming nothing in the emissions system is inop.
