Default Good old 5.0 Rear Main

So after a few years of pindrop oil leaks I need to replace my rear main seal. What should I be concerned about here....I know the rear main is usually the first seal to go but is this a sign of engine wear ie. bearing or crank? Hoping this is just a standard seal replacement. What are some of your experiences?....thanks folks.

its uaually an indication of increased crankcase pressure. You'l put a new one in and either your VC gasket will be next, or your pan gasket.

fix the seal, and check your PCV valve for restriction

is it still just making pin drop sized leaks or is it pouring out? if its minor, i would check to make sure your pcv isnt clogged before i took the time to do a rear main swap. when i built my current motor it leaked right off the bat, minor tho but all i had was two breathers. hooked up a header evac kit and the leak stopped instantly. in other words, it was just crankcase pressure causing it to leak, the seal was fine

Thanks guys....I replaced the PCV valve it appeared to be leaking from there as well and looked a little old and pretty gunked up. I would say now after driving the car there may be 1/2 tablespoon on the floor....This is all prior to replacing the PCV valve mind you....I'll keep checking.

Check screen below pcv. Check endplay on crankshaft, will give idea of thrust bearing condition.

Had the rear main done yesterday with new PCV valve. Everything else looked great. The rear seal had obvious wear, hopefully this will fix the problem allowing the crankcase to breath a little easier.
