Exclamation Starter spins on battery hook up

I just rebuild the 302 in my 95 GT. I got everything back into the car and hooked up today. I went to connect the battery to do a test fire, and the starter began spinning as soon as juice hit the system.

Is it possible that I have something hooked up incorrectly, or might something have happened to the starter while is sat? This is very frustrating at this point. I was really looking forward to hearing it start tonight.

Please help!!

sounds like you hooked the wiring to the starter incorrectly. letting the starter sit unused for a while wouldnt cause it to do this all of a sudden

but how in the world could I have hooked it up wrong. It's two wires that come from the wiring harness. One large wire for juice and another small wire to the solenoid. I never even took the harness out of the car. There is a ground wire on the opposite side of the motor that I'm pretty sure is for the starter, but I grounded it to the block like it is supposed to be. So, I'm just confused as to what I could have done incorrectly.

Would a bad solenoid prevent the Bendix from kicking in as well? It isn't kicking against the flywheel. It's just spinning as soon as I hook up the battery.

You probably have the large wire touching the M side of the solenoid causing the starter to spin. The only other possibility would be that the solenoid (on the fender apron) is stuck closed. If you have an ohm meter check that 1st since its easy. You should not have continuity on the two large terminals without the ignition switch being turned to start.

Boss- is a 95 there is no starter relay. Pull starter and bench test. Then go get another starter.

The solenoid is built into the starter on a 95. Shouldn't the bendix kick over to the flywheel if the tab got bent into the power wire though?
