They call them SN95's for the 94 to 98 Mustangs

And double check your wiring. The issue seems to be with the starter control circuit.

The bendix will only come out if the solenoid is energized. If you have bypass/shorted the solenoid then only the motor will spin. This occurs when the B and M terminals are touching at the solenoid.

its the ford platform number...technically any mustang from 1979-2004 is a Fox because they are all the same basic platform but the everyone calls them something specific like 4 eyed fox(79-86) aeros fox(87-93) sn95(94-98) new edge(99-2004)and the newest are referred to as S197

thanks for everyone's help. I figured out the problem.

The guy I had hook up the starter had the power lead touching the other contact on the starter. He had it hooked up in the correct place. The wire was just turned enough that is was touching the other contact. It was bypassing the solenoid all together. I corrected the issue, but now I have another problem.

The fuel pump is not kicking in when the key is turned. Anyone know of an easy way to check the fuel pump or the wiring to ensure that the pump is getting juice without pulling the tank? The pump could have went bad with the car sitting, but I want to make sure that the pump is actually getting a signal when the key is on before I just change the pump.

Grab atest light, wiring diagram and a fused jumper lead. Then jumper the relay and/or pump.

Very easy to do.

I'm thinking it might be in the ignition. I spayed a little ether in the intake, but it didn't attempt to fire at all. I have to get another set of hands to see if I'm getting fire before I go through all that trouble.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
