A/C PROBLEM AND ITS HOT OUT!!!
I bought my 93 gt about 4 years ago and when I bought it, the air conditioning was ice cold and worked great. about 2 summers ago, I was running the A/C and I heard a "psssh" kind of noise (hard to convey through typing) and I and my passenger both could taste the gas. Ever since then, I've had no A/C and as you all know, it's getting REALLY hot this year and it's not even summer yet, so I need to fix this ASAP. Does anyone know what most likely happened and what I need to replace or do to fix my air conditioning? This is my daily driver and my girlfriend is complaining about sweating too much haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

either a hose or a seal. you should have seen oil leaking from somewhere... slimy oil
thats where it lost the freon, unfortunately.... you have r12 unless it was converted b4 to r134, so you will have to get a retro kit, and have a shop purge and refill.
your probably looking at $500

how could you even assume such??? taste the freon??? if he was running it on max a/c = recirculate mode and could taste it, = good possibility the evaporator has a hole in it and replacing that plus coverting to 134a in the process is gonna be way more than 500.00, first thing You need to do Op is have it leak tested by a qualified shop or person with the proper equipment, my machines pull system into a vaccum and hold it for 10 min to check for leak down, if it fails it, I put a parcial charge in then go leak hunting with the halogen leak detector, of course what also could of happened is the pressure relief valve popped off on the compressor releasing the freon , often when this occurs the high side pressure got to high due to a blockage/restriction or a faulty fan clutch unable to cool the condensor down but normally in such a case the a/c would of exibited poor performance/cool air output in city/stop and go traffic.

thanks for all of your help guys! either way it sounds like im gonna have to have someone else look at it. I've done all kinds of work on my stang, but I've never really messed with anything dealing with A/C or heat before. from what it sounds like, I'd have to have the right equipment and such to even get the job done, which i do not. Again, thanks for all the help!

Gross leak case several years old no oilevidence left no gas. Pressurize with shop air and maybe get lucky and hear where comes out. Keep a quart bottle of kids bubbles and paint suspected area and magic bubbles mark the spot. Cheaper than gas nothing into atmosphere. Yes, I own $300 electronic sniffer for difficult leaks. The dye is just a waste. Plan on letting something leak out to find and fix?? Have to return for a look to find dye. That is plain silly. Best thing was at Ford dealer we had a bunch of fittings and could hook up to every line and componet. Put vacum on it and see if it held.
