Default Headlight/Taillight problem

When i turn my lights on, the headlights come on but nothing else. I have to pull the switch back out real slow and then ill get my dash lights and tailights w/headlights. If i go too far ill just get dash and brake lights.

I replaced the switch and still have the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's rather annoying because if i go over a bump my switch will move and my headlights will usually go out at night.. I don't see why it is so sensitive.

What kinda switch you got? On my '90 you push the switch for lights, I thought '89 was the same. What you're describing sounds like it has to be the switch, but you say oyou replaced it. You may want to check the plug that connects to the switch and make sure nothings shorting in the plug.

Yeah the light switch. You push it in, but when you do, it only turns on the headlights. Then you have to pull it back out a ver very little amount to get the headlights and dash/brake lights to work. Almost like he switch is pushed in too far.

I donno, im getting fed up, i think im just going to hardwire the controls to a toggle switch(s).

Maybe ill take some pictures of the lights process tonight.

Noticed on the wiring diagram that there are 2 wires out of the switch and 2 wires in. One set for the headlights and one set for all the other lights. Looks like the tan/white wire comes from fuse 4 and switches through to the brown wire to power the parking lamps, and probably the dash lights, but they're not shown on the diagram. The good news is it doesn't got through the multifunction switch so it pretty much has to be the light switch or wires or the connection between the two.

Here's the diagram I found at autozone.com;

based on the fact that you JUSt replaced the switch, and that 90gt said its either the wires or switch... i'd check the harness terminals and make sure they aren't burnt up at all. my lightswitch was toast, i hardwired new terminals. good luck. :P
