I just got my new 89 5.0 5spd DD and I'm wondering about the ECU (is it tuned or not). The EGR system is not hooked up (no vacuum lines), so it should throw a code, right?

But, there is no CEL on while its running and it does prove out at KOEO. The car is lightly modded so i wouldn't think someone would go through the trouble of having it tuned.

If it is tuned, what does this mean to me? Does a tune mean I won't ever get a CEL, even when its broke? Does the ecu still adjust a/f ratio's like the factory tune did?

pull the ECM out of the passenger side kick panel, and see if there is a chip in the J3 port

+1, if there is no chip in it, its possible your cel is burned out or disconnected

The CEL proves out at KOEO so i know its working. i'll check for the chip asap
