Question Question re brake shoe springs

I have a 1991 Mustang GT and am servicing the rear 9 inch stock drum brakes. My question is, which of the two brake shoe springs goes where?

A local mechanic told me the general rule is that the green spring goes on the primary shoe, or if both springs are the same colour, then the lighter coloured one goes on the primary shoe.

Both my old springs and the new ones I got in my genuine Motorcraft rebuild kit are green and white, and although they look similar, they are not exactly the same. The kit came with no info whatsoever.

These brakes shoes were replaced once before since the car was new by its original owner, and I don't know for sure if he put these springs back the way they originally were (since the brakes will still work even if the springs are installed on the wrong shoes).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Almost Stock!!

That picture is worth a thousand words. Such a picture does not appear in any of the books I have. I've printed it off and will include it now.
