Default Have you heard this noise before? 5.0 w/AOD in a 67

Just implanted a 5.0 w/AOD into a 67 coupe. When I start it up, the noise coming from the engine compartment sounds like "multiple smoke detectors in your home going off at the same time", but at a much lower volume. (noise level)

To troubleshoot, I have removed the cone air filter, no change. I have taken the front drive belt off (alternator, water pump, etc.), no change. All vacumm lines are new and connected, no ports are left open. I plugged off the two large smog holes on back of the heads. (sounded like open headers before I did that) New intake gaskets, upper and lower, throttle body gaskets, new IAC, new TPS, new injectors, as part of the install process.

The one unknown is the AOD. Really haven't seen it work yet. Possibly this is whining like "smoke detectors" due to fluid levels or internal issues?

Have you heard a noise like this before? Maybe the distributor? Any ideas??

....again.....it sounds like a bunch of smoke detectors going off at the same time.....just not as loud....unless you get closer to the intake manifold as shown in the video.

I have since swaped out the distributor with another.....no change. (to add to the list of my first post)

Any thoughts? My next thought is to change the intake with a spare....

sounds like a vaccum leak or if it has an after market TB on it, sometimes due to the sharp edges in the casting they'd create a whistle as air rushes past.

TB whistle

remove the blade and smooth the edges with very fine grain sand paper

Yes, it is a new BBK throttle body on there. I am fairly sure I'm not dealing with a vacuum leak.

I will take off the thottle body tomorrow night and work on smoothing out the blade with sandpaper as suggested. I hope this will be the fix, as I'm ready to move onto the next "challenge" with this build. (seperate post for an AOD not going into gear)

I'll let you know if the sandpaper takes care of it. Thanks for the suggestions! I appreciate the ideas!!

if you do it right, it WILL take care of it. Best thing to do is back off the throttle stop screw all the way, you want the blade to be able to close COMPLETELY, while NOT getting hung up or jammed. I colored the outside of my TB blade with a marker and let it snap shut a few times, and looked to see where it was wearing the marking off

Still working on the suggestion by AdderMk2. It does sound like it's begining to alter the noise a bit.

I just found this link yesterday, so I may have some work to do on the intake as well. I have a 70mm TB on a stock intake. The stock TB was just crap when I got engine for the conversion project.

http://www.bbkperformance.com/instal...faqs.php?ihk=1 (see second question)

Just wanted to share the information.....Thanks!
