Strange Electrical Gremlin

I have 91 with a stock 5.0. I started the car about a month ago like normal but when I let off the key it revved above idle and the starter was still trying to turn as if I was holding the key on start. When I turn the key off the engine kept running. I had to stall it. A few minutes later it started fine. It happened a few more times. Once after I stalled it and took the keys out I pressed the clutch back in and it started again. Several times later it started the same way and after I stalled the car the starter cut on while I was out of the car holding the keys in my hand. The car was in neutral and it sounded like it was grinding so I disconnected the battery. I replaced the fender solenoid and the starter and its solenoid. The problem still remains. The ignition cylinder is still intact and I am looking to replace the rectangular, electrical part of the ignition. Any ideas?

id definitely start with the ignition switch in the steering column

yeh ignition switch. they have break away head bolts on them...hopefully yours weren't broken off lol and if the heads are there, i'm prety sure they're tamper proof, it looks like a torx bit with a hole in it

You can get the part at any local Autozone or parts outlet, I had a similiar problem and it turned out to be that.

the bolts that hold the switch to the column ARE tamperproof torx heads. get a set of tamperproof torx bits when you're buying the switch.

Well I had a set of star keys which had a small hole in them. But the hole wasn't deep enough and now I may have damaged one of the bolts. The center pin is a bit bent. I might be able to fix it but any other suggestions to get the bolt out?

drill bit and screw extractors...or needle nose vice grips if you can get them on the head of the screw.

Switch didnt stop it

I got the two bolts off but the car is still trying to start on its own. After I put the new switch on and went to connect the battery the car tried to crank where as it only ground the starter before. I take the negative side off. It stops. I put it back on and it tries to crank. What else could be causing it?

a bad starter solenoid on the drivers side fenderwell
