Question Timing numbers/scale is to worn down on harmonic balancer

The timing numbers and scale is really worn down on my harmonic balancer and impossible to rear what can i do ?

compare to another balancer and create your own marks if possible

if not sounds like you might have to replace the balancer if its causing you serious problems

Find tdc, (if u dont know how the old fashond way.. they sell a little tool with instructions) install a timing tape. Bingo your problem is solved.

A basic timing light just flashes the same time you get spark. So the number you see next to your pointer is your ignition timing. So if see 10 deg next to your pointer, it's 10 deg.

A dial back light has a dial or display. If you set the display to 10 deg. Electronically the flash is delayed 10 deg. So now the light will flash 10 deg out of phase. So you will see TDC, which is Zero and well marked on most engines, lined up with the pointer.

Another situation would be to want 15 deg. So you set the dial back light to 15. Run the engine and adjust the distributor until the zero lines up with TDC.

This works if you know where the TDC number is, i had to do it with the special tool referenced earlier.

I tried using a vacum meter to set it and i think i got it pretty close cuase its not pinging and its running a lot better hopefully my new fuel pump will fix the rest of the problem
