Question voltage regulator bad?

i have i 92 fox that i just did a h/c/i swap and when i got it back together i ended up somehow breaking a post on the alternator where it plugs in on the side...so i bought a reman from autozone and ever since then if i leave the battery terminals connected over night the battery dies.

i looked on here for some ideas....checked the draw between the post and terminal and pulled fuses....no change......so i was messing with it and pulled the top plug off of the alternator and the drain was gone....does this mean the regulator is bad or a wire is bad???????

Trio diode in alternator. Replace that or get another alternator. Bubba

if you have a good starter/alternator shop locally, have them rebuild it. autozone stuff has a lifetime warranty for a reason. been thru 6 alternators and 5 starters from there, finally bought better parts

I would make sure it is the alt before you start throwing parts at it. try disconnecting the alt rather then the battery and see if it stays good. IF it doesn't then you need to use an amp meter and start pulling fuses until you find the current draw,

he said that he pulled the plug into the voltage reg off the alternator and the draw was gone...

replacing that voltage reg is a pita! i ended up buying a new alternator. 150amp 3g conversion is great

Disconnect battery, remove alternator, remove 4 bolts that hold regulator. Remove 2 bolts that hold brushes(remove rubber plug), put brushes and springs into new regulator use smaall hex key or paperclip to hold brushes(small hole between brushes bolts). Install to alternator and remove key-clip. Not at all like launching the space shuttle. Is easy.

i did that twice and both times when i released the "paper clip," even very carefully, the brushes broke and fell apart. maybe just ****ty napa and oreilly quality?? this won't always fix it.
