Default 93 gt speedo problem

So im rebuilding the t5 in my tranny and im almost done but i want to fix my peedo problem i only drove my car for about 10 minutes home after buying it and noticed that the speedo climbs really fast and when id say id be doing around 55 60 the speedo says like 85 90 what would cause this? My tranny speedo gears dont look that bad would it be a cable or a sender possibly?

What gears are in the rear axle and what color gear is on the speedo cable? Sounds like it has the wrong speedo gear.

yellow is the 18 tooth gear, used on 83-89 cars with 3.08 rear gears.

is the trans still apart ? you should put a black 6 tooth drive gear in it while you have it apart. then you can correct for all the good gears with a smaller 17-20 tooth driven gear. '93 used a 8t drive just like the aod's so you can only really correct to 3.27's with a 21t. the 23t is NOT a ford gear and WILL chew up after a period of time

but yeah it's the gearing for sure.... you prob have 3.73 or 4.10 and the car originally had 2.73 with the yellow gear

door tag shows original gearing... under "ax" m=2.73 , z= 3.08 , e= 3.27 but 3.27 was only available in aod's

with a black 6t, you want the same yellow 18t for 3.73 or a black 20t for 4.10's

Ok well down the road i plan on putting 4.10's in it so i should put in the tranny a black 6th gear and keep my yellow gear on the speedo sender?
