Default Oil pressure issues...

Well after installing the turbo kit I've been realizing that after driving the car for 10 to 15 miles when I'm stopped at a light, or even idling the oil pressure drops below the NORMAL reading. But when cruising it jumps back up to the MA part of NORMAL on the gauge. And for the first 10 miles or so it's right at the RMA part of the gauge. It's driving me crazy because it happens every time and I'd hate to have it be the death of my motor.

I check the oil on a regular basis and it's not overfull and it's not burning or leaking any oil. I'm sure I''ll be asked so the oil in it has about 1000 miles and is GTX high mileage 10w 30. And yes After installing the turbo I did flush out the oil and any metal shavings from tapping the pan so the oil in is clean and like I said fairly new.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but after the turbo install I was having some blow by issues so I just put on breathers on both the filler neck and the intake towards the back of the motor and haven't had an issue with oil leaks or smells since.

So any suggestions or ideas are welcome and I want to thank you all in advance.

Could be as simple as running the wrong brand of filter. I had the same issue with my car, switched to fram and it did what your experiencing. Quickly went back to motocraft fl-1a and carries great pressure all the time.

Yea I was just reading you thread on that and went out to check what I'm running to make sure I got the right one and I'm also running the FL-1A.

Is it only at idle? What's the pressure showing at 1,000-1,200rpm?

I figured someone would say this, well any brand or type of gauge I should look for or stay away from?

Yes, only during idle does the pressure drop below NORMAL but during any acceleration it jumps back up to RMA portion of the gauge. At 1200 rpm's its usally at the lower end of a NORMAL reading, around the AL.

Turbos get pretty hot, and can heat up the oil pretty good. Use an infra-red thermometer on the oil pan and see what you get. Not completly accurate, but a quick and easy way to see where you're at.

You might just switch to a 10W-40 to keep the pressure up and handle the heat.

If you're going to run turbo's, that usually means you beat on it pretty hard. Consider a full compliment of gauges to keep an eye on things. I also prefer Autometer.
