Default 160 Thermostat

When I bought my car, the temperature always stayed at about the L on normal in the gauge. For about the past month or so, It has been running much hotter, at about the R. My mods are in my sig, with headers and an e cam in the near future, do you think I would benefit from getting a 160 degree thermostat?

i wouldnt ever recommend a 160° tstat. you should get an aftermarket gauge, 180° tstat, and use a bottle of waterwetter.

160 could be to much for your application. All a thermostat does is allow coolant to flow faster/slower. With a 160, the coolant may flow so fast that it doesnt collect the heat is it travels through the system. I have a 180 and have no problems, its about as far as I would go on the stock app though.

its opens up at 160* and trys to cool off the motor sooner. now with that going on the EECIV has a 172* [or 178*] warm up loop where the car stays richer to it hits that operating temp. if your car was only a summer car and was built up a good bit then i woudl do a 160. but for a DD i would go with 180

this reply is a$$ backward, and worded way wrong. the tstat has nothing to do with the speed of the coolant through the motor. no matter if you got a 160° or a 210° tstat, the coolant will flow at the speed the pump moves it. the temp rating on the tstat also has nothing to do with how long the coolant stays in the motor/radiator. it simply controls the temp that the coolant is transfered from the motor to the radiator to allow it to cool. with a 160° tstat on the engine will switch from open to closed loop way to much and performance and MPG will suffer. with a bored block in a hot climate, and a weak system a lower tstat might be adequate, but never is a 160° tstat practical on a stock bore block.
