Default need advice on a 5.0 witha carb

I have a 84 5.0 with edelbrock performer cam, heads, intale, and avs 650 cfm carb, I am having issues with it backfiring thru the carb and am not too sure where to start looking. The timing is set an 16 degrees advanced, and it only backfires when I let off the gas after accelerating. Any ideas where to look?

16 may be a bit much for your setup, try 14 and see if it goes away.
Or never let off the gas

Is it backfiring through the carb or the exhaust? If its through the carb I dont think its in your timing because normally it will backfire through the carb only if the timing is to retarded.

Thats what I was thinking. I more or less have the same setup and have mine advanced to 16 with no backfiring issues. Where is your carb jetted? Have you pulled any plugs to see if you're lean or rich?
