Default Transmission Problems

Having trouble getting my car to engage into second
It will rarely grind but someone will go like its in gear but wont pull

If I pull up on the shifter and shift very fast I can get it to engage into 2nd and it works perfect

Any ideas on whats going on?

Take transmission out, take apart. Pay close attention to shift fork and clutch sleeve for 2nd.

do you have an aftermarket shifter? your shift stop may be a little out of adjustment, otherwise bent shift fork

oh ****, you're in charlotte? so am I, yeah, take the little boot off of the shifter, and underneath that there's a rubber boot type thing thats held down with three bolts, you can take that off and tell. Of course its easer just to notice what shifter stalk is in there. the stock ford one is a semi gloss black rod thats pretty long, any other one indicates a short throw shifter. As far as repairing the trans, its pretty straight forward, I haven't had a honda manual apart in a long time so i can't give you an honest comparison.

that looks to be a hurst, so what could be happening is when you go pull back to engage second the little bolt at the rear could be in just the right spot to jam it.

Loosen the lock nut and tighten the bolt (so it moves away from the shifter) and take it for a ride and shift it easy and see if it engages.

if that doesn't help/solve the problem then it could've been the opposite, that whom ever installed that short shifter didn't know what they were doing and didn't adjust th shift stops, then bending a shift fork when they where power shifting it.

I'll go give that a shot now, It's weird though because it will engage 80% of the time if I pull up hard on the shift **** and shift quick But I'll be right back with results
