Default Ignition control module keeps going bad?

My car has been breaking up on hard acceleration, then yesterday it would jerk hard every so often. Today it broke up bad and was backfiring then shut down all together, my convertible did the same thing and I just replaced the ignition control module and that fixed it. This is my second one on this car, I also just replaced the distributor, cap, rotor button, coil, plugs, wires. It blew out a cloud of smoke too when it backfired and cut off. I am out of ideas right now, any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have spark? You did use a Motorcraft ignition module. Fuel pressure? Codes? Need a bit more information.

I didn't use a motorcraft, I am ordering one tomorrow. The fuel pressure is 35, it drops when the rpm gets up there though. Codes: I decoded them with my repair manual- Fuel pump circuit, secondary air system inoperative, coolant temp sensor out of specified range, MAP sensor out of specified range, EGR control circuit

sounds like you need to clean you mass air, check your vacuum lines to your emissions equipment, replace coolant sensor and map sensor

kind've stating the obvious, is your emissions equipment even there anymore?

I am using autolight plugs, I cleaned MAF a month ago, also have checked for vacuum leaks two weeks ago and found none.

wow, someone else has been playing in there, first off motorcraft plugs make all the difference in the world. Second when you cleaned your maf, what'd you do to clean it? And I assume you checked for vacuum leaks the old fashioned way with a can of carb cleaner?
