I knew the car wasn't going to. Idle limit: 220 Idle Emissions: 1917

i didnt just fail....i failed epicly. I know the biggest problem is that it has a smog delete and no cats. Frankly, i've driven the car a couple hundred miles since buying her and she's garaged up now and is only a track car. Actually was able to get specialty car insurance saying you cant drive it X amount of miles.

I'm in Washington, and i was wondering if anyone knew a way around emissions. They want me to go spend $150 at a specialty shop and then test again (which i will fail again). but if they test, you fail again they want to inspect the car for emissions control devices that have been removed. it seems like this is pretty insane for a car that is going to be on the road ~200miles in a year.

short of putting cats back on it which i really dont wanna do just to take em off again, ideas?

Get the O.E equipment. And swap it in and out.

I would just get a used x/h pipe, don't get a stock one, b/c theres a good change it could be toast, plus there were recalls on them. Also, you can pass w/o the smog system. I failed emission a couple months ago. I threw on a stock h pipe and failed, then i put the smog pump back on a failed again worse. I ended getting a new bbk x and passed with flying colors.

I assume the 220 at idle is refering to hydrocarbons/HC??? NOT enough info to guess accurately, what are the rest of the values???? smog will not help or hurt, smog pump is only used to inject air into the exhaust stream on warm up to heat/bring cats online quicker, once car is warmed up the system is inactive............Installing cats is the first thing to do and see where you come in at, excessive hydrocarbons can be a result of but not solely limited to , poor cumbustion, excessive blowby, faulty tune up parts, leaky inj/fp regulator, gas in the oil = NEED oil change, ect ect........

Not trying to high jack this thread or anything, but I have smog check coming up for my 95 mustang gt an I noticed that mjr pointed out that the smog pump is inactive after a certain time while the car is running so my question is if I were to buy an aftermarket midpipe with highflow cats will I be able to pass even though I remove the smog pump and all the lines and canister?

depends on how good the cats are vs oem cats, just make sure the vehicle is good and warmed up before test, but not sure if CA has a visual, if so you'd fail that portion

From what Ive noticed they just strap the car up for the test, they never actually inspect the motor, so i guess with a good midpipe and high flow cats Id pass right?

you won't know until you go have it tested, 50/50 chance, as long as the rest of the car is in good running shape and tune up parts are good and car is in good fuel control then you "should" pass.

sorry...ya hydrocarbons. figured that is the first one to get popped for.

failed 3 of the 4 tests. two in HC and one in CO%

HC failed both cruise, limit 150...i got 183. idle was the big one i mentioned
CO% was at idle but it did pass cruise. idle limit was 1.2% and i got 1.54%

im figuring bolting cats up would probably help lol. Their is a city not to far from me where i have a buddy that lives that doesnt require emissions. I'd like to be somewhat legal tho
