my 4cyl fan was wired to run as soon as the battery gives it power so its on constantly. Is that something that i definitely need to correct? or will a 180 t-stat be enough to get some proper operating temps with the fan running all the time?

Have you read any of the responses to why temperature is important? Fan constantly running....the answer is back here

the 5.0's have two temp sensors. One for the instrument panel and one for the computer. My car was the same way. My car read really cold and it didn't go above the second dash unless it was a summer day. I just simply replaced the coolant temp sensor that connects to my instrument panel and it worked again. If your ECT sensor is out, you should be getting a code and your car will be running lean like mentioned before.

i don't have any codes, i replaced the t-stat today with a stock 195, left the fan alone for now and I'm getting temps about dead center in the gauge after warmed up so i guessing the gauge is reading fairly accurate. Its nice to get some heat in the damn car.

I just realized why the last owner had a 160 t- stat in there, he was running some bull**** ads superchip that i remember yanking out, apparently it required a 160 t-stat.

I definitely read the responses. I wanted to learn something like i stated in the first post. What i meant was how do most guys with electric fans have them wired? My car had a toggle switch to it but the damn thing would overheat to the point of literally smelling of burning so i just direct wired it with a fuse. This car was majorly abused by the previous owner, I'm just trying to work out the kinks and make a nice dd out of her.

The T stat was way too low. Good job, problem solved.

now upgrade your fan and hook it up so it'll come on when required (faster warmup less electrical load) also looking at your pic your belt is strange, what all has been deleted out of the engine? Looks like he took out the a/c pump and relocated the tensioner with a little aluminium mount?

yeah, deleted ac....they guy thought he was going to make a rocket of it with a stock motor. I'm all for mods but I'm starting to realize how annoying it can be to undue things other people have done. Good thing I got a good price on her. All in all, its a solid car.
