bought a 94 gt, seems sluggish
#21

I knew 3 guys all with 95 GTs with automatics and factory 2.73 rear ends (which they all seemed to always have). These cars were absolutely pathetic. No wheel spin on take off, no guts when floored. They sounded good, but were completely sub-par for being what they were supposed to be. We'd get walked by the better minivans for Christ's sake...
The problem is that the 94-95 body style was meant to house the 4.6, but Ford didn't have the 4.6 ready in time, so they totally buggered over the old 5.0 HO and squished it into the 94, a byproduct of this is a smaller intake and less power. Compare how truly different things are under the hood of an 87-93 vs. a 94-95 Five Litre V8 and accessories in these cars.
Two dudes ended dumping their cars and one guy put in 3.73s (and that's all he did) and it "woke up" the car a whole helluva lot. He could just give it some gas and do two-wheel burns/donuts on pavement like it was nothing. The car could haul pretty good after that. Also, with his pretty tall overdrive gear in his auto, the highway rpms were reasonable.

Like everyone has said, the sn95's stock(94-95) were slow. Automatic or manual, it doesn't really matter. To put it into perspective my stock 3.27 geared 95 AODE(CAI, Flow's, shift kit) ran a [email protected] 1/8th(about a 16.1 1/4). And the car was very well taken care of. My other 95 manual w/3.08's with fresh motor(K&N, headers/X-Pipe) ran a [email protected] 1/8th. SLOW!! Both are much quicker now. But again, to be fast you have to cough up some $$$.
But also try clean your MAF w/some electrical contact cleaner and see what that does.
And to Nitrous Bob, you said that there is not a correct speedo gear for the AOD with 3.73's +. Maybe for the AOD cars, but this is an AODE. I am not sure if there is a difference for the speedo gear between the two transmissions, but I have 4.10's with a CORRECT Speedo gear.

they will do all old skool stuff and bust about a half hour of black flag.
i did however see danzig a few years ago when doyle would come out mid-set and they thrashed a good 12-15 old skool misfits jams
all the good stuff.
anyways.... the trans is ur big hold back... rule of thumb is that a aod will set you back a full second in the 1/4 mile which equates to about 100 hp
gearing is biggest, you need 4.10's, you also need a 3000 stall converter from precision industries or lentech
cam will not dothing until you do heads and intake
i'd spray it

no you don't
they are still an 8t machined output shaft, where the t5 has a plastic gear c-clipped on it
the highest numerical tooth gear that ford makes is a 21t and it is purple. it is for 3.27's
you can use the white jeep 23t gear , and will be correct for 3.73 but wear out fast due to the pitch of the teeth on an aod output shaft. thats probbaly what u have and it's about 5 mph off still
i will bet you my car you do NOT have an accurate speedo
you game ?

Yeah but the 4.6 mustangs (at least before pi heads) are still slower than a fox, My father still has his 88 all stock with 2.73's and my uncles 98 with 3.27's is a slug compared to the 88, of course the 88's faster than my 93 too.
