Default idle issue..

i have a 88 gt 5.0, it has 24lb injectors, a bbk maf tuned for those. a trickflow intake manifold, a one inch spacer, k&n cold air and h pipes. i bought it from a guy who did all the conversion to mass air. my issue is that when i start it, it revs up to 2000 rpms then drops to 800. about three minutes later it starts to drop to 500 on me, give it gas and its none responsive, if i feather it it will rev up and then seem to be fine. so far ive found about 6 vacuum lines not hooked up, which ive fixed. thought it was timing, but its right on 16 degrees, while its not looping. i dont have a code reader or any real mustang shop in northern az. could it be as simple as a sensor issue?? any help would be great, finallly got the car ive wanted and the wife gives me sh*!... if i can do it myself id rather, money is tight, like i have to tell anyone

You don't need a code reader for you car. Follow this procedure: http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,2471.0.html All it takes is a paper clip and the ability to count.

Most of the Gurus on this forum won't even try to help unless you've pulled the codes already.

Personally it sounds like you've still got a vacuum leak somewhere... a fairly large one. But I could be wrong.

You would do weel to buy or borrow a vacuum gauge. They don't cost much and are one hell of a handy troubleshooting tool, especially for cars and trucks LOADED with vac lines and vac driven accesories.

Does still seem like its got a leak. If a vac gauge is totally out of reach you could break the intake hose behind the air cleaner and hold something over the hose to block most of it. If it runs better partially blocked...you still got a leak.

+1 for vac leaks. if u cant hear any then take some starting fluid and spray around the intake and youll find out if you have one there.
