What did you use for a gasket?

nightmare90gt 10-19-2010 09:37 PM

ford racing one piece rubber with steel core

You used a good gasket, so you might be suffering from pan deformation. No seal or bolt tightening will take care of it either.

i was thinking it might be the u shaped parts of the pan being deformed so i was thinking of getting a stock replacement pan.

Sounds like a plan, Did you use every bolt? There is one on each side of the timing cover that goes in as well just in case you didn't know.

I use a little silicone on the u shaped part and where the timing cover is. It doesn't need much, just a very light coat.

also do you guys have two metal surroundings on the sides of the pan kinda acts like a washer.

is there a thread that shows me how to drop the k member

I haven't seen one but you just have to unbolt the struts and there is either 4 or 6 bolts that hold it in. Be sure to support the engine first though!

Metal (reinforcement strip) best be there or pan will most likely not seal, good chance of deforming pan also.

yea that wouldnt be good, so all i have to undue is the strut, steering, motor mounts, and the bolts that hold it up.

what about the springs

ok so they are suppose to be there thank you bubba 95sn

Well with my latest experience with my new motor, without those plates the bolts are too long and will bottom out not sealing the pan. Also I used the same gasket you did,my car leaks more now that I rebuilt the motor(not like leaving quarts of oil, just a drip or so)than before. But I also have aftermarket crank and with todays rear main seals, seems like they dont make them like they used to. Never thought of dabbing silicone on the corners as stated.
