Smile Black oil?

I've been noticing a couple of things with my motor. First when you hit about 4500rpms it blows a little blue smoke and is kinda embarrassing and was wondering if it was time for rings, valve seals, or something else that i dont know about (any ideas to help). Plus the pcv line going into the upper intake is wet with oil so i was wondering if it was possible this could be the problem. 2nd i got an oil change not to long ago and i checked the dipstick and noticed the oil is very black but doesn't smell burnt. The car is running rich but whats going on? HELP...........

sound like a good excuse to replace a motor!

but really, the blue smoke is a common worn out 5.0 trait, it also sounds like your pcv is bad if its soaked with oil, the blow by from worn out rings will over pressurize the oil and blow it where it shouldn't go. If you get a wild hair across your tail go out, fire her up and take the oil cap off, it shouldn't change the way it runs much (if any)

if you take the oil cap off and the idle changes then you're getting blow by in the cylinders some how. If you really want to know do a compression test. As far as crate engines go mmff(could've been mm) just had a great write up on the frpp crate

Sounds like rings most likely. Blowing blue smoke = burning oil, and if the oil is getting filthy right away it's most likely excessive blow by contaminating the crankcase.

well thats a good sign, now if you want definite answers time for a compression test! go rent/buy a compression tester and run the test!

Not saying its the right thing to do but being that I used to be a used car salesmen I know a few tricks to getting rid of the blue smoke.

first thing we used to try is marvels mystery oil and Lucas with an oil change.

next was a full synthetic oil. I would only recommend this as a cover up of the smoke not a long term solution.

So I don't seem to much like a jerk, We also included a warranty with every car we sold that would have covered the motor blowing up.

So i pulled a plug out to start a compression test and when the i looked at it and noticed it was covered in burnt oil. So is this a good sign that the rings are gone?
