Default Tach Wiring

I have an 88' GT with an aftermarket tach that was wired directly to the stock wiring. It jumps around a bit and I've been told it should be wired directly to the distributor.

How do I do this?

Not jumping all over the place, just not holding steady. Sadly, I've only driven the car a few times after buying it over a month ago due to transmission problems.

Thinking of things I can get done before I can get to my brother's house where there is a lift and someone who knows what they're doing.

A normal engine will not hold steady, it constantly adjusts idle speed. The finer the tach reading the more it will show.

and btw... if you have an msd and wanna go coil anyways.... if it has the tfi harness... you now need to use the wires on the harness... not the coil wires

no msd. It shows idle at 2k, but is no where near that. Plus, I was driving down the highway in 5th gear last night going 55mph. The tach showed 4k and then slowly crept a little below 3k and then crept back up slowly. Speed didn't change at all during this change.

I didn't wire it so I don't know where it stands now. Plus, if it matters the motor is not stock. It is a dss 331 stroker carb'd
