Default Oil Pressure Question

Hey guys,

I was watching my oil pressure gauge on the cruise I took today and noticed that when I am idle, I have only around 7psi on my gauge. As I drive i goes up a little bit. It seems like I am getting about 10 psi for every 1000 rpm or 1 psi for every 100 rpm. Is this normal, or should I be concerned? At idle, even the factory gauge is showing nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help in advanced.

Buy yourself a mechanical oil reader gauge. The oil gauge on the cluster isn't very accurate. I've heard you need 10 psi/100 HP.

The secondary oil gauge is it mechanical? If not buy a mechanical gauge to check the readings. Should be 40-65 lbs at 2000 rpm engine warm. If not take a look inside before the inner becomes the outer.

10psi per 1k rpm is the normal rule of thumb. 40+psi at 2k rpm is what you should see with a high volume oil pump. Stock pump is 10psi/1,000rpm

Thanks for the help guys!!

Well, it is a mechanical gauge and it has the stock oil pump. That low of pressure just makes me nervous. Would you all recommend upgrading to a high volume pump? If so, what brand would you go with?

Your oil pressure is right where it's supposed to be in a stock engine. 7psi warm at idle is normal, your idle is only about 700rpm. 10psi per 1,000rpm is normal.

What you are saying is 27lbs pressure at about 2800 rpm? What is pressure at 2000 rpm engine warm?
