5.0L HO swap
i have a 1968 mustang with a very old very tired 302 smogger that was put in before i bought the car. I found a 5.0L HO out of a 1992 cougar in a wreckers. On the car craft website these 5.0L HO engines made 278HP with a dual plane intake and carb and no other mods. I am thinking of doin a swap as the current engine has a edelbrock performer intake and a 600CFM holly carb. Are there any other junkyard finds that i should be aware of. I know of the explorer and mustang cobra GT40P heads but are there any others i should know about? Also what type of numbers do you think i will lay down with this new engine? I have a C4 tranny and an 8 inch ford with 3.73 gears. Any help is appreciated. Thanx

RE: 5.0L HO swap
The 5.0 HO swap will require a little bit of work to make it run in your car but otherwise it'll make you really happy in the end. I'm not sure about the 280hp with a carb and an intake[&:], ****, I'm positive that you couldn't pull those kind of numbers with just those two things. Keep it FI. This engine stock produces 225HP and 300 Ft. Lbs. of Tq. So that C4 with some 3.73s and a 5.0 HO (F.I.!!!) is a very good combination, you'd be pleased.

RE: 5.0L HO swap
i heard about that, youll see gains close to what they say if you get a good carb with a good tune and a good intake, also a cam is nice to have with that setup
its a direct drop, you could always run heads from an older 289 HIPO or a good set of 351 heads but get the good years. usually the early ones or off a 351 lightning
