Default Grinding noise from below shifter?!

I own a 94 mustang gt and whenever I accelerate I hear what sounds to be a metal on metal grinding sound coming from just under the shifter whenever I hit the gas.. (I have a 5 speed) the sound is worse when there are more people in the car or when the car is loaded down. It's at the point where if all 4 seats are filled, the noise is constant whenever I hit the gas even a tiny bit.

The interesting part is that the noise also happens when the back goes over a bump. It doesnt have to be in gear, and the Clutch can either be in or out, making me think its not the transmission.

I'm thinking it could possibly be the driveshaft rubbing against the bottom of the car or the universal joint going bad. I just had the clutch replaced with a stock clutch, and while the noise happened before the work was done, it's a whole lot worse now. Should I stop driving it, is it safe, or is it just an annoying sound?

might be your drive shaft hitting your exhaust

Time to look under the car may be obvious where the contact point is happening.

hey man, i have the same issue in my 94. its a problem that year, its actually your drive shaft rubbing on your E-brake line. you might wanna check that to make sure it isnt ripped right through it, or gotten close to. the line runs right through the same basin as the shaft. i wiretied mine up but it still rubs if i have 2 other people in the car and more than 1/2 tank

Hmm... That's interesting... I haven't looked underneath that carefully, would it be easy to see just from jacking the car up and looking underneath, or would it be a job for the lift?

uh, i lifted my one side up enough to get under, and its a bitch to do if the drive shaft is on. i took it off to wire-tie it.

Damn... I'm on a college campus so any work I do is gonna be in the parking lot... Oh well... I'll have a look at it tomorrow and see if it's going to be that bad with the driveshaft on. If it is I guess I'll have to take it off but that's gonna be a ****ty thing to have to do in a snowy lot. Just out of curiosity how long did it take you to do it?

Sorry for the double post, but does anyone have any ideas for a solution other than the wire ties? Gibson mentioned that his still rubs if he has more than 2 people in the car, and in a perfect world, I would love it never to rub, as it's really quite alarming to anyone riding in the car with me.
