WHATS A GOOD CAM?

what would good specs, lift/duration, be for a cam to be put into a 92 LX. only mods are BBK headers, and Borla cat-back, and underdrive pulleys. It is a 5 speed and is for street use. Id like a good sound, and the most performance by dropping in the cam. I dont want to get into any extra engine work. not yet at least.

Honestly man, don't waste your time on a cam this early on. You don't have nearly enough parts on that engine to have any need for an aftermarket cam. Look into a bunch of worthwhile mods before doing the cam because the stock 5.0L cams are good for something like 500hp-ish and some quick 1/4 miles.

One of the guys in my club had a '92 LX until this summer that was blown with a Novi 1000 and modified more than most of the Stang I've seen around. The car ran an 11.76 in the 1/4 and he still used the stock cam.

This is good advice, I have also seen a N/A stock cam/GT40 heads/Cobra intake car go 11.8's on a stock cam.

he's right... you dont have the mods that would match right for even a street cam. with the mods that I have listed in my sig., which are on my car is a good combo for a "street cam", nothing more. my duration is 218 for intake and 224 for exaust. my lobe lift is .3200. lobe seperation is 112.0. my cam is a comp cam 270HR extreme energy... fits small block 302 or 351W. ford part no. is #35-324-8 if interested, but get the right mods first.

Even then, I wouldn't bother with a cam at that point. I'd have intake, heads, full exhaust and more before I looked at even the very mildest aftermarket cam.

For sound:
- Is it legal for you to run without cats?
- Do you have aftermarket mufflers?
- How about an X or H-pipe? (changes the exhaust note a bit... nothing really radical though)

mine does fine performance wise with my mods and cam... how would that not work for him? you dont NEED heads+manifold for a very mild street cam, i get comments about my setup all the time.

Not saying that it will not work for him. However, I am saying that when you're working with what's still very close to a stock setup, anyone will tell you that a cam should not be close to the beginning of your "to do list".

When you're that early into a project, it's pretty easy to spend a few hundred bucks on other things that your engine can benefit from which will get you better results.
