So I was dirving to work today when I pulled up to a red light and my car idled way down to about 500 rpm's or so and started barely running then died completely. I fired it right back up and got on my way but it seemed like it had no power i would be full throttle on the gas and it would be going nowhere. Pulled into work popped the hood and the egr was wide open so I pulled the vacum line off the egr closed and it cleared up and ran fine. I have been chasing my bad idle like crazy but could this have been it?? Its brand new bought it from autozone about 3 weeks ago could it be the electrical can on the top thats bad or just a brand new faulty part?

You need to look at the component that controls vacuum routing to the EGR valve = EVR or EGR Valve Regulator solenoid..... and yes, a partially opening or open EGR valve during idle will cause problems.
