Default Different 5.0’s

I was looking today on the internet and i was wondering what the difference is between a 94-95 Cobra 5.0 and a 94-95 Gt 5.0 engine? I know that on the new 4.6's that the Cobra has a DOHC and the Gt has a SOHC. Is that the way with the 5.0's too?

the cobras have what is called the GT40 motor and the GTs have a regular 5.0 HO

the GT40 is a head, cam, rockers,TB,valve springs,injectors, maf,and intake package
GT40 is underated at 235hp but its more like 270hp
5.0 HO has 225HP<edited><editID>ohsoquik02</editID><editDate>37958.8499074074</editDate></edited>

no on the 5.0 you have one cam period. the cobra are really not that much better. with the extra you pay for the car you could take a gt and turn it into a real killer cheaper than you could buy a cobra usually. it actually has 235 and not 270?????????????????

Ford engineers totally redesigned the H.O. cam's lobes to suit the Cobra motor.Although lobe centerlines close to the orginals were retained, overlap was reduced [compared to the H.O. grind] and slightly more lift was employed. All lobe's acceleration and deceleration ramps were also revised for smoother lifter/pushrod/rocker action with the bigger/ heavier GT-40 valves.
These conservaitve numbers were delegated despite the fact that the same GT-40 parts assembled on an otherwise-OE 5-liter engine had already produced 270hp. Even Ford's published preproduction estimates saw 40 more hp as a reasonable number to use in (H.0. versus GT-40) comparsions. Fords revised 1993 output number is also contrary t othe published ratings for the Saleen and SAAC specialty mustangs. these machinces are equipped with nearly identical GT-40 powertrains and perform as if their engines produce between 260 and 270 honest hp.

I agree the cobra is under rated in power, if you made the dame mods to a normal 5.0 it would gain more than 20hp, Not to mention the cobra has far superior brakes than the GT especially the pre 94 maodels!!
