Unhappy NEWB ?? Problems after SD to MAF setup. Help please

Hey guys new to the sight, this ?? Is actually for a friend, so if you have some time, please help us out here. He is pulling his hair out.. Car in ?? 87 lx 302 5 speed

Car was orig a 4cyl car. Anyway it was switched to a v8, along with harness ect.. Then was converted over to a MAF from SD. Car has a small cam in it, other then this it is stock with headers and 19lb injectors( tanish tops).. Him or myself didn't do the swap.. PROBLEM is it smokes black smoke horrible.. Like washing rings out style if he drives it enough.. Checked all the wiring from the MAF swap, it is good.. Changed the PCM that was in it out( cuz it was from autozone) with a 90 AL9 pcm. Still does the same thing. BLACK smoke bad.. The idle changes some if we unplug the maf but still smokes.. Adjusted the fuel pressure down( has a adjustable FPR) car wants to stall, still it smokes.. I am not familiar with mustangs or how the pcm's are calibrated to work with diff sensors on the car, so I am not sure what is going on.. We plugged the vacuum line back into the MAP, it seems to settle it some, but still the smoke is there.. I duno if it has a hung injector or what.. But nothing we plug or unplug seems to make the smoke go away.. Would a bad TPS do this even if the car idles fine( not hunting or anything) Would bad 02's make it do this?? He doesn't want to keep tossing parts at it..ANY INSIGHT would be much much helpful to us at this point. Thanks you for your time

John

it wouldnt be the tps your able to get it to idle decent, what is the exhaust set up besides the headers? stock mufflers? were the injectors used? your positive you got all the pins right in the harness when doing the conversion from speed density to maf? did you do a compression test on the motor? was the cam installed properly? what is the fuel pressure set at?

Car has full exhaust, no cats H pipe with flowmasters, the normal stang setup.. Not sure on the injecotrs, or the FP.. Just from adjusting it from its set point to down to the point where the car wanted to stall, it never stopped that black smoke issue.. I thought it might have a hung injector on it. I guess next is going to swap the injects from the left to right, see if the prob still occurs. Other then blowing a ton of smoke, the thing idles fine, does not sound at all like the timing or cam is out.. Thanks

It'll be a pain to do ,but with the car running, unplug injectors one at a time and see if any one cylinder is the culprit. Is the base timing correct?

Yes timing all seems to be good, no popping or anything like that, fires right up( surprisingly0 for as rich as it is.. Checked to see if it is a bad ring, seems not the case, not blowing anything out of the covers, just sounds too good to be out.. The rotor, plugs, wires are all fresh on it.. Will give the injectors a shot tom.. Thanks

Car is throwing a light, so that will have to get scanned, but dunno when his buddy will be able to come down and do it. would be nice to figure the thing out though LOL...Will give the injectors a shot tom.. Thanks

Does the black smoke stop if you unplug the MAF?

Pull the plugs, that will tell you if its rich, and what cylinder is rich. Also dont unplug the MAF with the car running, not good on electronics.

what is the F/P as far as number. is the regulator bad? unhook the vac. to the map it does not need it with mass air.I would also start check to make sure all the wires that need to be moved are in the right place. Check grounds also.
