if I was you I would find a nice 4cyl notchback....as ins. will be afordable and while you save your $$$$ building that 5.0 engine to put in later down the road you can transform it in to a nice beast and having that 4 cyl vin number will keep the ins low

my insurance isn't that bad on my 91' GT...it's actually cheaper than my 83' turbo datsun...but anyway, that 302 swap in a 4-banger seems like a lot of work for a first car. good point on fooling the ins...but still, when i got my first car i wanted to go fast THAT day, not wait on my lazy a$$ to build an engine while i drive arounda 4-banger. anyway, you can find a good, low-mileage, clean 5.0 for around that price...you just have to look forever. i spent 5500 on mine...but it was worth every penny.

the insurance isn't bad on my car either. it's only like 100 bucks a month for full coverage, and i'm 19, and i've been racing cars since i was 9. (that means i've had a few tickets) i agree with Vfast, do the 4 banger swap. you can find a 5.0 motor for relatively cheap, and the whole drivetrain you could probably pick up from a salvage yard.

Things you will need:

1.You will obviously need a 5.0 engine (if you want injection, you need all the ECU parts as well. )

2.You will need a beefiertransmission....any 5.0T-5 will work. This means that you also need a different transmission bracket. (shouldcome with a tranny though.)

3.You'llABSOLUTELY NEED an 8.8 rear end.... the 7.7 in the 4 bangers won't hold up.

4.NOWyou can start worrying about the money issue. The labor will be somewhathard, but it's worthit. It will be extremely hardif you don't know what you're doing. You can pick up a 4 banger carin pretty good shape for usually under$1500.

My buddie landree bought a car that was already done like this......and she hauls major @$$.It carbureted too. I found a 5.0 engine on ebay earlier this week for$200 and all it needed was a carburetor. At first i didn't believe it.....i mean, it was either completely trashed (the motor) OR....someone had no idea what they were doing. Turns out that it was a guy's ex-brother-in-law's, and the wife was getting rid of it. You can find all your parts pretty cheap, so long as you look around......and if you put them in a fox, it'll fly.

I just recently converted automatic to stick and did a motor swap. My guess would be depending on how much he charges it could be 600-2000 bucks

Yeah I say you can do what SN says, plus dont forget a new motor mount. Shoot if you like the 80 body styles do that you can even find somein low privately own car lots or junk yards or those paper circulations. Even if you don't you like the 80 styles the 94-98 body styles you can still find you a V6 with pretty low insurance and a v6 even though you can't find all the mods you can for a 5.0 like K & N Cold air intakeor anything you can find a lotand do a lot to them. Kenny Brown Racing actually makes V6 Mustangs that dopro track racing.

An 11 psiATI Procharger with a tornado bolt on will make it faster then any stock cobra. And if your looking for the same grumble and bumble as a cobra or GT you can get an nice exhaust Borla I support but foryour price ranges Flowmaster makes nice exhaust for the buck. If you want clutch for a begginer the V6 and 4 cylinder clutches are easier to learn, they are not as heavy.

But you can get a 4 cylinder and do everything that SN said or you can get a V6 and add mods like you would on a v8. You can make a nice sleeper car out of a v6. Plus if you do decide to trade up for a v8 through the years you will get more trade value I would think with a V6 then you would with a 4. If youdont get a tradevalue you can always turn around and sell it to a kid who is in your position and take the money you make off thatfor a nice down payment on a v8.

You have plenty of options just scrounge around for them. Even ask if people in the forums have one for sale. Wait a little longer and get a co signer you can get a v6 or a v8 in any year you like with no probs.

The only prob with not paying cash up front is having a car payment and when you have a car payment your mods usually have to wait for every other pay check....

you could find a car for probably cheap, depending on where at in the country you live. NOW, the cost of the labor will vary depending on who you have do it. You can find a 5.0 motor (carbureted) for probably 400-500 bucks. The transmission you could find real cheap. I did the e-bay thing for my t-5, it had 30k on it, and was only $225. The rear end will be roughly 200-300, and the work for putting the 3rd pedal in won't be too much at all. ( you will also need the cente4r console, which can be picked up at almost any salvage yard that deals with ford. Like i said, the labor will vary from shop to shop, but if i were you and were seriously considering this option, i would start asking now. Brandon.
